Dear PTA President:
The 83rd Annual Arkansas PTA Convention, the official meeting of the delegate body of the Arkansas PTA, is scheduled for May 9-10 at the Holiday Inn & Northwest Arkansas Convention Center in Springdale. Delegates to the convention are elected or selected by their local PTA unit. According to Arkansas PTA Bylaws, Article XVI: State Convention, Section 2 (a); Each PTA unit shall be entitled to be represented at the annual convention by its president, three (3) other officers, or their alternates, and one delegate for each fifty (50) members as shown on the
books of the state treasurer.
Any PTA member presenting a 2007-2008 membership card may attend the convention as a non-voting delegate upon payment of the Registration fee. All voting delegates must present a completed credential card and their membership card when they check in at Convention.
This year's National PTA Representative will be Betsy Landers, National PTA
Secretary/Treasurer. Betsy currently lives in Germantown, Tennessee, and is a former resident of Little Rock. Though her involvement in PTA is at the national office, Mrs. Landers is quick to point out that the real power of PTA lies at the local level. She will be presenting a workshop on Defining Your Link to the PTA National Strategic Plan as well as participating in our General Sessions.
Please note: this year we are offering three (3) type of registration; Early Bird package (including all meals), Advance and General. We will not be able to sell meal tickets after April 15. Any registrations received after April 15 will be
held and processed as Onsite registrations at the onsite fee.
The Convention theme is "Building a Safer Future for Our Children". We are excited to bring our members a variety of speakers and topics. Convention activities include general business sessions, award presentations, workshops, exhibits and a silent auction. During the business sessions the delegates will consider amendments to the bylaws, adopt resolutions and approve the Arkansas PTA's legislative program.
Room rates at the Holiday Inn & Convention Center located at 1500 S 48th St in Springdale are $89.00 per night (double). Additional people in the same room are $10.00 each per night. Parking is complimentary Please mention Arkansas PTA when making reservations to receive the special convention rate.
The Northwest Region Councils and Units have planned a fun and exciting convention. We are looking forward to having record attendance and to seeing you at the 2008 Arkansas PTA Convention.
