Arkansas PTA applauds your desire to educate our children and youth. The purpose
of the four scholarships is to recruit outstanding people throughout Arkansas for the
teaching profession. The scholarships are funded from three sources:


F.S. Root and Edward F. Trice Memorial Scholarships ($800 each)
For two high school seniors seeking an education degree.
Requirements:

  • Must teach in the state for two years after graduation
  • Must be in the upper 1/3 of his/her class
  • Must indicate a definite need for financial assistance
  • Must earn twelve (12) semester hours
  • Must provide one (1) page essay on, “Who I am and why I want to be a teacher.”
  • Must supply three references*


Vera Levy Memorial Scholarship ($800)

For a parent who presently is not a certified teacher to return to college for a degree in
education.
Requirements:

  • Must be an active PTA/PTSA member
  • Must be a parent
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must earn nine (9) semester hours
  • Must provide one (1) page essay on, “Who I am and why I want to be a teacher.”
  • Must supply three references*


Helen Woodhouse Memorial Scholarship ($800)

For a certified teacher to do graduate work.
Requirements:

  • Must have earned a degree in education
  • Must teach for two years in Arkansas
  • Must earn six (6) semester hours in graduate work or other certification
  • Must attend a college/university with an approved Department of Education
  • Must provide one (1) page essay on, “What teaching means to me.”
  • Must supply three references*
